Apathy is Not an Option

From each crime are born bullets that will one day seek out in you where the heart lies.
~ Pablo Neruda

Should the Republicans pick up enough seats in the 2010 mid-term elections Rep. Joe Barton will become chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This is one of the countless reasons why this is not a time for apathy. While the Democrats are certainly not the end all and be all for a better world, at least their measured non-responses are much less worse than outright hostility to progress and complicity in envoronmental armegeddon. Wow, what a choice. But let's at least stave off a biological collapse for another decade or so, shall we?

Barton's obeisance to BP was a slap in the face to those living along the Gulf coast.

He takes over a million dollars from Big Oil, and thousands from BP, and apologizes to Tony Hayward for the supposed shakedown "slush" fund that was wrested from his company by the Obama administration.

Barton takes bribes, and delivers, but if Obama asks for a compensation fund for those whose livelihoods have been destroyed by the oil Hayward's company spilled, then a moral and legal boundary has been crossed.

This kind of partisan politics is as oily as the oil that's quickly smelling up the Gulf, and destroying everything in its wake.

BD...I was stunned at the nerve of this guy to grovel before his master while the cameras were rolling. These people truly have no shame, do they?

"These people truly have no shame, do they?"

Fortunately, his comments will be the gift that keeps on giving.

I'm betting Republican leadership was on his case soon after, and was the reason he issued his apology so quickly.

The first apology was a mea culpa without substance: "If my words were misconstrued, then I apologize."

No one who can hear, would "misconstrue" his words. Therefore Barton's apology lacked sincerity, and was used to give the impression of an apology, without actually doing so.

I'm glad he showed his (and the Republican)ass so candidly. I hope they play this nonstop through November.
